The MIND table was staffed by volunteers continually throughout annual conference; in this case: Julia Finn, Sylvia Wagner, Marylee Smyth and Brian Pendley. Jodi Cross-Hansen and Dorothy Caldwell From the minute we set up, people flocked to the MIND table to find out who we are, what we do and how to get involved. Our friends from the Immigration Task Force organized this activity (a campaign promoted by the Anti-Violence Project and introduced at MIND’s April 17 meeting) to build support for the hate crimes symposium that the Taks Force, MIND and others are working on for November 20. Ximena Diaz-Varas speaks the universal language of chocolate! The anti/pro witness brought out many expressions of this most basic message. Kevin Nelson celebrates diversity. Who could argue with that? ¡Mas abrazos para todas! Immigrant rights and LGBT inclusion go hand in hand: when on person is hurt we all suffer. Robin Burkhardt reminded visitors to the MIND table to show their support with a MIND T-shirt on T-shirt Friday. Nehemiah Luckett and Julia Finn led a musical grace at the MIND lunch. Openly gay music director Mark Miller delivered an insightful and inspiring personal witness at the MIND lunch. Led by MIND’s semi-official music director Nehemiah Luckett, we brought a ministry of music to the conference on the mezzanine above the plenary floor. MIND 2.0: We did daily reports on the new MIND website and Facebook page. We raised the roof at MIND’s Welcome Home booth at the conference’s Momentum of Ministries festival on Saturday. Wongee Joh welcomed visitors to MIND’s Welcome Home space. Welcome, discussion and rainbow cookies on Saturday The Welcome Home space was a place for fellowship and outreach. Visitors were encouraged to write their prayers of hope on rainbow ribbons. Colorful prayer ribbons made by our visitors decorated the Welcome Home space. Visitors to the Welcome Home space were invited to make signs portraying a broad understanding of family and love. Jessie Floyd and her father K Karpen were part of the fabulous SPSA team that organized MIND’s Welcome Home space.
