Bishop Easterling Withdraws From NYAC

Statement Released June 6, 2018 by NYAC Chapters of: Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR), Metodistas Representando la Causa de los Hispanos Americanos (MARCHA), Methodist Federation for Social Action (MFSA), Methodists In New Directions (MIND), United Methodist Queer Clergy Caucus(UMQCC), United Methodist Women (UMW).

Bishop Bickerton has shared with us that Bishop Easterling decided, in consultation with him, to withdraw from the NYAC invitation so that she can focus on her work in Baltimore-Washington Conference (BWC), and we can focus on our NYAC work. Read a statement from the Bishop here.

We remain dismayed that our queer siblings T.C. Morrow and Joey Heath-Mason were excluded from being voted on during the BWC Clergy Session and encourage everyone to pray for them and their families.

We respect Bishop Easterling's decision to withdraw. While we understand that there are strong views regarding Bishop Easterling's decision, and real lives impacted by them, we denounce every racist and sexist attack against Bishop Easterling’s her character and any and all members of this beloved community of God. We invite everyone to lift up Bishop Easterling and her family in prayer.  We look forward to future opportunities of engagements with Bishop Easterling.

May God’s grace, love, and justice remain upon the whole Body of Christ.
